Northwestern College Gave Her the Gift of ‘Home’
Now, Diane Broek is Paying it Forward
In 1976, I elected to attend Northwestern College because of the opportunities I felt I would have there and the financial package. I graduated four years later with degrees in biology and chemistry and a total bill of $1,500.
What did I gain from my $1,500 investment? A state-of-the-art education which led to a fantastic, 43-year career with Trans Ova Genetics, a livestock reproductive company in Sioux Center, Iowa. I also met lifelong friends at Northwestern and still consider them my best friends 47 years later. We vacation with each other every other summer—I am blessed to have found them at NWC.
My investment also gave me an alma mater that I am passionate about supporting and where I am proud to refer friends, family and other high school students in my life. But most importantly, NWC showed me that education, science and faith can harmonize—something that has had a significant impact on my personal faith journey and professional life.
I also was given the example of Northwestern graduates who live their lives with high intensity, high integrity and the vision that they can—and will—make the world a better place. Northwestern College gave me one of the greatest gifts: a place I will call “home” for the rest of my life.
